Nokia making its way back to the phone industry after long absence

Nokia

Nokia is expected to make a come back to the smartphone industry in 2017. A non-compete clause in the Microsoft purchase of Nokia Devices & Services which it was completely redundant prevented Nokia from producing a new smartphone until the current quarter. Most talk has been about the new smartphones being released some time in 2017. Knowing that, we’ve already heard about a work in progress called the Nokia D1C. The model has already been run through AnTuTu and Geekbench with Android 7.0 running the show both times.

Today, renders appeared on Weibo that show the Nokia D1C. The images show that this phone will be available in Black, White and Gold. One of the models include a fingerprint scanner while the others don’t. However one cannot question this company’s great background in designing amazing phones.

The specs from AnTuTu show that the D1C will carry a display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The Snapdragon 430 chipset drives the phone with an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 505 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of internal storage. On the back of the phone will be a 13MP camera, while an 8MP camera in front handles selfies and video chats.

This device obviously is not the flagship model that many were hoping to see out of their camp right off the bat. But even a company like Nokia might have to remember how to walk first before it can run. Still, there are great things to be expected from them.

Conclusion

What they need to do now is to really stand out among the pack. Google’s Pixel is a solid entry from the first-party hardware manufacturer, but it’s a generic-looking flagship smartphone that’s only riding on its brand name. If Nokia’s new smartphones could recapture some of its creative magic that drove the brand in the early and mid-2000s, the resurgence could really be complete. This could be great.
